Mariah Carey Confirms Pregnancy

Can I just say that I think it is absolutely hilarious that CNN covered this story. Granted, it was CNN Entertainment…but still. A headline CNN? I guess…

Yes, people. After months of speculation, Mariah Carey confirms that she is pregnant with Nick Cannon’s seed. This will be the first child for Carey, 41, and her 29 year-old husband Nick Cannon. Due to a previous miscarriage, Carey will not reveal her due date, but many unconfirmed sources have speculated the delivery of a baby boy in March.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Kanye West – Runaway

Here is Kanye West’s 35-minute short film “Runaway.”  The motion picture features Pusha T, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj (in a British accent), and Bon Iver and allegedly 90% of this soundtrack will appear on the forthcoming LP.  Filmed in Prague over the summer, “Runaway” was written by Hype Williams and inspired by the likes of –yep, you guessed it– Thriller, Purple Rain and The Wall.

Rihanna drops manager, starts Rihanna Entertainment and signs with Jay-Z & Roc Nation

Rihanna is doing the most!  Rihanna Entertainment will merge all of her “businesses, including music, film, fragrance, fashion, and book ventures,” the 22-year-old pop star tells The Associated Press.

It sounds like ‘Loud’ will be going through some changes between now and November 16…

I wonder if this has anything to do with Willow Smith signing with Roc Nation and nipping at her heels?  I’m guessing it’s mostly RiRi waking up and realizing that her career is slowly spiraling downward.

Grammy-winning singer has taken a bold leap in her career, dropping her manager, Marc Jordan, and joining Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Management.

As she prepares to release her fifth studio album, Loud, next month, Grammy-winning singer Rihanna has taken a bold leap in her career. She announced to the Associated Press Wednesday that she is dropping her manager, Marc Jordan, and joining Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation Management. Incidentally, it was the music mogul rapper that helped launch Rihanna’s career when he signed her to Def Jam in 2005.

The 22-year-old pop star’s career strategy also includes overseeing Rihanna Entertainment, a new entity that will serve as an umbrella for her various projects, including film, fashion, fragrance and book deals, as well as her music.

Loud will be released Nov. 16.

Sade says no to Jay-Z collabo

For all those artists out there that dream of collaborating with Sade one day — keep on dreaming!

Apparently, the very humble Sade told the Los Angeles Times that she’s turned down bigwigs like Jay-Z, who have wanted to rhyme over her beats or do “collabos” with her singing a hook on a hip-hop track.

“I’m too scared,” she says. “They’ll find me out. It’s like ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ They’ll find out there’s nothing there. As for collaborations, I’m collaborating with the band and do what we do. I see myself as a member of this band who does these songs that we write.”

Sade does say, though, that she is down to have her music sampled — and for a cheap price.

One 21st century music business convention she does acknowledge enjoying is sampling. “When it comes to sample clearances, I’m probably the cheapest chick in the west,” she says, quite amused by that idea.

In the meantime, you can still hear Sade — no collabs — on the North American leg of their 50-city tour on June 16 at Baltimore’s 1st Mariner Arena. Woo hoo!

Jay-Z’s Greatest Hits and the “Decoded” Scavenger Hunt

Originally slated for release in June, business guru/rap star Jay-Z will be unveiling his greatest hits collection on November 22. The album is called The Hits Collection Volume One and sees Jay drop a selection of hits that span his career. Now, all of the release details have been revealed.

The tracklisting has been let loose and, as evidenced below, many of Hova’s best works make an appearance, including smash hits like “99 Problems,” “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “Hard Knock Life” and recent hits like “Empire State of Mind” and “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune).” Still, mediocre tracks like the Kingdom Come yawner “Show Me What You Got” seem hardly necessary, especially when the release doesn’t feature any tracks from his classic debut Reasonable Doubt.

The package will be available on CD or vinyl, and will also be available in a deluxe edition and collector’s edition. The deluxe version includes an additional disc with five rarities and a 32-page booklet, while the collector’s pack comes with both discs, the booklet and a 100-page coffee table book with photos of Jay spanning his whole career.

Some tracks from the release can be streamed at the Hits Collection‘s official site. Look for more info at that link soon.

As previously reported, Jay-Z will also be cluttering up your Christmas shopping list with a new memoir called Decoded. The book is set to drop on November 16 via Spiegel & Grau.

To promote its release, Jay has teamed up with Microsoft’s Bing search engine for a worldwide scavenger hunt. A press release explains, “All 300 pages of Decoded will be appearing in places and on objects that have never before been used as advertising. From pools and pool tables to bronze plaques and high-fashion clothing racks, a variety of unexpected surfaces will become the canvas for Jay-Z’s art.”

At press time, only seven of the 300 pages have been located. More information and a handful of clues can be found at this Bing page.
We can’t help but think you might have an advantage if you try Googling the Bing clues. The Hits Collection Volume 1:

Too cute!

If I Were Karen Owen…

Fact: Karen Owen screwed up.  Big.  But here’s a question, where did she screw up?  Some will say she should’ve never created the Powerpoint.  Some say she should’ve never sent out the finished product to her so-called friends.  Some will go so far as to say that she should’ve never had sex with all of those athletes.  Whatever your opinion, I maintain that Karen Owen is an allegedly educated adult who has the same right to free speech as the rest of us do.  Now, whether the Powerpoint contains libelous or slanderous information is a matter of opinion.  I suppose it’s a matter of public opinion now.

Since everyone seems to be giving their opinion now, I’d like to put mine out there.  I’d never tell anyone who is interested to forgo sex, so more power to you, Karen.  Kudos to her again for documenting the best of her college years with one of Microsoft’s finest creative products.  Here’s where she screwed up: distribution.

When you put that kind of time and effort into something, you want to show it off to people.  Given the nature of the content, it might be a slightly smaller group than your holiday card list.  So, what should you do to get the word out…quietly?  Welcome to The Fridge.

You can go to The Fridge (http://www.frid.ge) and create simple single serving social networks when you want the functionality of Facebook without being on Facebook.  The best thing about The Fridge?  You have total control.  If you’re not invited to a specific Fridge, you won’t even know it exists.  This is truly the place to come to share with only your friends.  Not just select Facebook lists.  When starting a Fridge you’ll be able to invite your friends by providing them with a unique URL which can be reset in the event that it falls into the wrong hands.  Your friends will also have the option to decline the invitation, not just opt-out like some other social networks.  Ahem, Facebook, cough cough.

Had Karen simply shared her Powerpoint on The Fridge with something like a protected Scribd presentation, she might not be where she is now.  That could be viewed as a positive or a negative; she’s got a book deal now.

Don’t want your information broadcast all over the internet?  Visit The Fridge and start a few, you’ll see how easy it is to get addicted to the private nature of the groups.  You’ll see what I mean.  Also, I’m inviting you all to join my fridge “If I Were Karen Owen…” (http://bit.ly/If-I-Were-K-O). Here you’ll see how I would’ve distributed the presentation to my friends.  No copying and pasting, no forwarding and no downloading.  Sure, someone could go through and take screen shots of every slide and then redistribute…but my friends aren’t lame enough to have that kind of time.  Are yours?

Oh, one more thing…when you sign up on The Fridge you’ll see that we grab one of your Facebook photos to get your profile started.  Yeah, we grabbed it.  Anyone can grab most of your information stored on Facebook…friend or not and regardless of your beloved privacy settings.  We just did.

Duke F*ck List is National News

Yep, the Duke F*ck list has made national headlines.  I swear there are other more interesting and important things going on in the world.  I can’t believe that this is getting national attention.  I really can’t believe that this girl is getting a book deal.  Thanks to the Duke Lacrosse players for starting the trend.

The Duke F*ck List [SLIDESHOW]

These Duke kids, I tell ya…

This is too much.  One of my Duke interns tipped me off to this powerpoint presentation today.  Surely, this couldn’t have been a real thesis submission.  Upon first reading it, I thought it was a complete joke until I began to recognize some of the names.  Maybe she’s spiteful?  This just doesn’t make sense.  At a small school like Duke, this is going to get around very quickly!

Drake – I Get Lonely Too [AUDIO]

I’m a big TLC fan and the title track on “Fanmail” was one of my favorite songs on the album.  That said, I was skeptical when I heard Drake’s cover, I Get Lonely, was making its way around the interwebs.  He did it justice.  This track is growing on me.

I Get Lonely Too from his upcoming mixtape, It’s Never Enough.
