    Gucci Mane is going mainstream

    “Gucci Mane – Lemonade”

In preparation for his December 8th release (album that is, not prison release), I wanted to share the story of Gucci with y’all…

    Guuuuucccccccccciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii…!!!!

Whether you know him as The Gooch, Big Gooch, Gucci The Glacier, Gucci LaFlare or, simply, Gucci Mane—the rap moniker he adopted as a tribute to the nickname “Goochie Man” that his grandmother gave his father years ago—one thing remains true: There’s a good chance you’ve heard Gucci Mane’s name somewhere in the last 12 months. In 2009 alone, Gucci Mane has recorded more than 150 songs for 40 different mixtapes and albums. He has successfully elevated his name from the underground rap scene in the South straight to the top of the pop charts with appearances on four different Top 20 singles, including Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed,” Mario’s “Break Up,” featuring Sean Garrett, Trey Songz’s “LOL J,” featuring Soulja Boy, and his own street single, “Wasted,” featuring Plies and OJ Da Juiceman, which recently landed at No. 1 on urban mainstream radio.

“When I came home from being incarcerated in March, my manager challenged me to collaborate with everyone that reached out to me in the next few months,” says Gucci. “That challenge has changed the entire direction of my career. My perspective is broader.”

But Gucci Mane also isn’t new to this. After releasing dozens of mixtapes over the course of the last five years, performing at hundreds of venues across the country and garnering hundreds of thousands of fans in various pockets of the country, Gucci Mane wants people to know him for more than just his unique nickname. Ready to prove his worth, this winter Gucci Mane will finally release his highly-anticipated solo album The State Vs. Radric Davis.

The road to success has been nothing short of a challenge for Gucci Mane. Born Radric Davis in Bessemer, Alabama, Gucci Mane relocated to the Zone 6 area of East Atlanta when he was just 9 years old and, as a teen, did everything he could to make ends meet for himself and his family. But after a short stint in prison on drug-related charges in 2001, he decided to focus solely on his interest in music. He teamed up with local producer Xavier “Zaytoven” Dotson and created his first self-titled mixtape, which he distributed from the trunk of his car.

“I sold about 1000 of those in a couple days,” recalls Gucci. “The streets ate them up and they’ve been hungry for my music ever since.”

By 2003, Gucci Mane got his first taste of national fame when he teamed up with fellow Atlanta rapper Jay “Young Jeezy” Jenkins to record the infectious club anthem “Icy.” The single spread quickly, gaining a huge cult-like following for both artists. Unfortunately, this rise to the top of the Southern rap scene was followed by misfortune. A dispute between Gucci Mane and his collaborator resulted in Gucci Mane having to serve almost a year in prison on attempted murder charges in 2005.

Supported by his manager Debra Antney and her management company Mizay Entertainment, Gucci Mane didn’t stay down for long. After the success of his 2005 debut album Trap House, his well-received 2006 follow-up Hard To Kill and his 2007 major label debut Back To The Trap House, Gucci Mane was a star-in-the-making. But he wanted more.

In 2008, just before serving another prison sentence for a probation violation stemming from the 2005 incident, Gucci made sure people would remember his name— for good. He relentlessly recorded hundreds of tracks and leaked them to the streets and the Internet through his So Icey Entertainment and 1017 Brick Squad Records imprints. Showcasing an extremely creative knack for crafting songs and delivering them in his unmistakable Southern drawl, Gucci secured a loyal fan base, becoming more popular than ever by the time he was released from jail in March 2009. As the fourth most-searched artist on all of MySpace, his efforts even earned him a #6 slot on MTV’s 10 Hottest MCs In The Game list in October 2009.

“No artist this year has more effectively merged the underground with the mainstream,” MTV’s staff concluded during the Hottest MCs panel discussion. “He’s broken through in ’09 and shined through the clouds of controversy that have continued to dampen his career.”

With a past full of struggle and a hustler’s journey to success, the future looks very promising for this Atlanta rapper. Though he continues to battle ongoing legal issues, he spent the better part of 2009 commanding hefty fees for performances throughout the country and completing the long-awaited The State Vs. Radric Davis—his first album to be released through So Icey/Asylum/Warner Bros. Records. Fueled by “Wasted” and his next single “Spotlight,” featuring Usher, which promises to introduce even more fans to his music, it’s not hard to see why Gucci Mane has one of the most anticipated albums of the year on his hands. With album appearances from Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy—not to mention strong production efforts from Polow Da Don, Drumma Boy, Sean Garrett, Mannie Fresh and more—2009 is slated to be the year that leaves Gucci Mane’s name forever engraved in the annals of hip hop history.

“I want to be considered one of the best,” says Gucci. “I already know I am, but I want the rest of the world to know it, too.”

    Gucci Mane in stores NOW!!!!

Tiger Woods Count is up to 7

The funniest thing about this entire Tiger situation is that no societal
group or demographic seems to have his back.
Not one of his three races is standing up to defend him, to be the team
to block the bull off of his behind. SMH.

More Women in the Tiger Woods Scandal — Seven and Counting

Posted Monday 07 December 01:00 PM By: PopEater Staff

As the Tiger Woods story continues to evolve and escalate, more and more and more (and more) women who aren’t named Mrs. Woods have come into the fray claiming they’ve had affairs with the golf great. Last week there were three. But now, at least four (and maybe more) women have been thrown into the mix, some by their own admission and others by tabloid sources. It can be quite confusing — so many mistresses, so little time — so PopEater took the time to break down each alleged Tiger poacher and the stories swirling around them. Let’s start with the newest name after the jump.

    Who: Jamie Jungers
    Occupation: Waitress and Aspiring Model
    Age: 26
Alleged Length of Affair: 18 Months
How She ‘Knew’ Tiger: According to the Daily Mirror, Jungers allegedly met Woods at a party in Las Vegas, where he apparently sent a message to her that he wanted to meet. Naturally, romping ensued. The report states that the golfer and Jungers would meet up at his California home for trysts over the next year and a half.

Credible? Going on her looks and occupation (waitress), it seems to add up.

    Who: Mindy Lawton
Occupation: Waitress or Manager at Perkins Restaurant
    Age: 36
Alleged Length of Affair: 1 Year
How She ‘Knew’ Tiger: The cougar of the Tiger family, Lawton is also the most descriptive. The chain restaurant employee told the News of the World that she “sometimes looked like a rag doll after we’d made love.” She also uses the term “well-endowed” to describe the golf icon, whom she claims would frequent her eatery near his Orlando estate. Shockingly, she says the Tiger affair occurred during his wife Elin’s first pregnancy and that they would have wild sex at his mansion.

    Credible?
We’re gonna go out on a limb here and say not so much. For starters, would gazillionaire Tiger really frequent a Perkins (no offense)?

    Who: Cori Rist
    Occupation: Unknown, Mom
    Age: 31
Alleged Length of Affair: 6 Months
How She ‘Knew’ Tiger: The NY Daily News reports that Rist met Woods at the NYC club Butter last year and before long he began flying her to various destination on the PGA tour. A source tells the News, “Tiger would typically get a large suite at a hotel. Someone would book Cori an adjacent room, so she wouldn’t be seen coming into his room.” Rist, who has a 7-year-old son, has declined to comment.

Credible? Her silence and non-denial shed doubt that this is bogus. However, unnamed sources spilling beans on an affair is no doubt sketchy.

    Who: Holly Sampson
    Occupation: Soft Porn Actress
    Age: 36
How She ‘Knew’ Tiger: The details are hazy (ie, non-existent), but the Daily Mail referenced the star of ‘OMG, Stop Tickling Me’ as yet another Tiger mistress. Her lawyer exclaimed, “She has no comment on the matter,” which is not a denial. Due to a lack of other info on this one, we’ll just rattle off some more of her film credits: ‘Flying Solo 2,’ ‘Diary of a Horny Housewife,’ ‘Descent Into Bondage’ …

Credible? No naughty tales from unnamed sources? No details on when they met or how long they may have flung? We’ll wait on this one.

Last Week’s Crop of Tiger Honies:

    Who: Kalika Moquin
    Occupation: Vegas Nightclub Marketing Manager
    Age: Unknown
    Alleged Length of Affair: ‘Months’
How She ‘Knew’ Tiger: According to Life & Style, Moquin has “quietly been seeing Tiger for months.” While Moquin refrained from commenting on the story, saying “it’s not appropriate,” an insider told Life & Style that she and Woods “hooked up a bunch of times,” and that Tiger told her “he wasn’t happy in his marriage or his home life.” The magazine reports the two hooked up as recently as Oct. 23, when Woods was in Las Vegas.

Credible? Perhaps. The two have reportedly been friends for years, but conflicting sources say they only “hooked up a handful of times.” So, which is it: a “bunch” or a “handful”?

    Who: Jaimee Grubbs
Occupation: Cocktail Waitress / Reality Star
    Age: 24
Alleged Length of Affair: 31 months
How She ‘Knew’ Tiger: In a massive Us Weekly exclusive, Grubbs — who was recently on VH1′s ‘Tool Academy’ — claims that she and Tiger had at least 20 sexual encounters, though she didn’t divulge exactly what that means. Even worse for the golf great, she claims to have voicemails and text messages that will only bolster her claims of an affair. Us even has one of the voicemails, in which Tiger tells Grubbs: “”I need you to do me a huge favor. Can you please take your name off your phone? My wife went through my phone and may be calling you.”

Credible? Oh, the voicemails. Yes, her claims are believable.

    Who: Rachel Uchitel
    Occupation: Club promoter
    Age: 34
Alleged Length of Affair: No timetable
How She ‘Knew’ Tiger: Though she’s denied all reports of a fling with Tiger, Rachel Uchitel was the first and most prominent woman in the mix (aside from Tiger’s wife Elin). Days before the car crash, the National Enquirer linked Uchitel to Tiger, with a source saying that Uchitel bragged about their trysts. Also, according to RadarOnline, Woods paid for Uchitel to meet him in Australia this month — a trip she recently claimed was mere coincidence.

Credible? It certainly looks that way. According to TMZ, Tiger’s wife called Rachel to confront her on the night of his crash.

    Who: Elin Nordegren
    Occupation: Model, Tiger Woods’ Wife
    Age: 29
How She ‘Knew’ Tiger: Elin and Tiger have been married since 2004, and up until last week, led a relatively quiet life despite Tiger’s massive fame. Since the Enquirer reports and subsequent car crash drama, Elin has yet to speak out publicly about the Tiger situation or the status of their marriage. We’re guessing she’s sitting back and waiting for the storm to die down, and then she will assess the situation along with Tiger. We just hope it winds up happier and nicer than the last few days have played out.

    Susan Boyle tops the charts

    YouTube Preview Image

Remember Susan Boyle? Yeah, you do. The woman became a YouTube sensation following her breathtaking performance of “I Dreamed A Dream” on Britain’s Got Talent. If you’re like me (a music enthusiast and Les Misérables fanatic) that performance shocked you into tears of joy. Boyle went on to place second for that season of Britain’s Got Talent in late May 2009.

I thought the hype would die there. It hasn’t.

Since then Boyle has set an online viewing record with her performances, interviews and 1999 rendition of “Cry Me A River” being viewed over 100 million times.

Now, Susan Boyle is back in the headlines.

Boyle’s debut album, I Dreamed A Dream, was released on November 23, 2009 becoming Amazon’s best-selling album in pre-sales. It also the biggest first week sales of any debut album in UK chart history. Big deal…her people bought her record…right? Wrong…we did too!

One week later, I Dreamed A Dream debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 with over 600k in units sold. What’s more…Boyle is on track to crack 675,000 in her first week. That makes I Dreamed A Dream the best selling record of 2009, so far, topping Eminem‘s comeback record Relapse which sold 605,000 in the first week.

And it doesn’t stop there. Check the numbers.

Susan Boyle – 675,000+ in first week sales

Adam Lambert is on track to sell 196,000 units of For Your Entertainment fueled by his high energy American Music Awards performance last week.

Lady Gaga, often referred to as this generation’s Madonna, has two releases in the top 10 this week. Her seven song EP Fame Monster was meant to make The Fame complete. She’s also released a deluxe edition of The Fame. The Fame is looking to pull down 144,000 units while Fame Monster should see upwards of 181,000. Projected sales for those two records COMBINED doesn’t come close to touching Boyle.

Rihanna‘s pathetic excuse for a record, Rated R, will see about 180,000 units move this week. I’m betting Chris Brown will smash that with Graffiti next week.

50 Cent‘s Before I Self Destruct is nowhere near the top 10, but a notable release nonetheless.

This week, Susan Boyle has outsold Adam Lambert, 50 Cent, Rihanna, AND Lady Gaga! All this with no radio play.

I’ll be the first to admit it, I slept on her.  Did you?
